Campus Recreation Services' new slogan, "Find It All In Burdick Hall," is meant to describe the numerous athletic events offered in the building. But on Saturday, the definition will expand to include a new offering: A feature film.

A "Dive-In" movie night, including a screening of "The Breakfast Club," will run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Burdick Pool. Assistant vice president for campus life Teri Hall said students formulated the idea for the event.

"No one can remember a time we've shown a movie in the pool," Hall said.

The Council of Student Leaders, established by vice president for student affairs Deb Moriarty last fall, brainstormed the idea earlier in the semester.

"We as a group had been talking about doing a collaborative event," Hall said. "We're looking to provide a fun weekend activity."

CSL and Campus Recreation Services are sponsoring the event, which is free, but requires a TU OneCard for entry.

The Dive-In ties into an effort to establish more signature events for Towson, similar to January's TU After Hours.

"We want to continue the trend of weekend and nighttime programming," Marisa Kaplan, chairperson for the CSL programming committee, said.

The movie screening will begin at 10 p.m. Students can watch the movie from the pool or the bleachers. But the film is only one part of the evening.

Based on Kaplan's description, the Dive-In may resemble a neighborhood pool party. "There are going to be crazy floats in the pool -- reclining floats, two-person floats, dive sticks, a scavenger hunt at the bottom of the pool," the senior mass communication major said.

Kaplan said the organizers are trying to attract a wide array of students.

Aquatic volleyball and basketball games will also take place. CRS marketing and communications specialist Nicky Everette is looking forward to the water polo game at 9 p.m.

"We're going to do inner tube water pool in the deep end and regular water polo in the shallow end," she said. "It should be really interesting to watch."

Other events will also attract students to Burdick on Saturday night. A dodgeball tournament and group exercise class will be hosted in the gym, and a disc jockey will be on hand at the beginning and end of the night.

"It's something we've never tried before, and we really want students to know there are fun things to do on campus, and chances to meet other students," Hall said. Everette said the event also serves as an opportunity to showcase Burdick Hall and the pool.

"It's a great feature on campus," she said. "There's open swim in the mornings, at lunch and in the evening. And some people don't even know that the campus has a pool."
