College Application Essay: Quinnipiac: October 2002
With that in mind, let me share why I feel I am a 'best fit' for Quinnipiac, as well. Since my freshman year of high school, I have blossomed from an introverted, “average” student into an outgoing, extroverted, involved young adult. I attribute this change to my experiences and involvement at Damascus High School. I am the type of student that actually enjoys school -- and not merely for the social aspects. Every day presents a new opportunity, whether it is testifying to the Board of Education, sending a school newspaper to print, visiting another school and learning from their student government, or preparing a Powerpoint presentation for parents. Last year's SGA president invited me to events, shared her insight on the school, and encouraged me to become more involved. It was her suggestion that led me to become the county SGA Secretary, where I learned that students could create positive change, rather than just plan events. It was her recommendation that I run for an SGA office, and in retrospect I cannot thank her enough. .... I have learned how to elicit the attention of 100 students in a crowded room. I have learned how to motivate the newspaper staff while facing significant deadlines. I have learned how to take what could be a serious conflict and turn it into a positive discussion. I have learned when to listen -- and when to speak up. These experiences -- and the resulting knowledge -- are what make me a "best fit" for Quinnipiac. |
